Did the economic downturn coincide with the Democrat take over of the house and Senate?

No, but democrats, including Obama, had their hand in the downturn. To blame Bush solely is an ignorant rant. Democrats have done more harm than good throughout their many turns in charge. Their are plenty of bad conservatives, there is no such thing as a good liberal.
