Starting University and dont know anyone.?

I am about to start University and know there will be nobody in my cl or even in Uni who I will know. In cl how do you get to know people? I imagine we will spend most cl time listening to lecturers so is it just a case of asking whos going to the canteen when lectures finish and tagging along? How do I get to know people?
