Breakthrough bleeding while on birth control ortho cyclen for years?

Last month (2 weeks ago) I skipped the green placebos to skip my period. I noticed breakthru bleeding but still don't understand how that happens when supposedly the body tricks itself into not releasing an egg right? Last time i skipped placebos i didnt have breakthru bleeding
